Na facebooku GONE (wyd. Egmont) ktoś zapytał Michaela Granta jak wyglądałyby święta w ETAPie. MG podchwycił temat i na stronie FB dodawane są fragmenty świątecznej wersji ETAPu  .

I’m writing this because I don’t know what’s going to happen and it’s Christmas. I never even liked Christmas before that much because I never know what to get people, and anyway I never have any money. But it’s really sad to be here at Christmas and now all I do is think about not being here and being home. Well, I am home, I mean I’m in Perdido Beach, and sometimes I go to our house but mostly it’s too lonely. You know what I mean by home. You guys.
Anyway I don’t know if you’ll ever get this. But maybe you will. I’ve decided you’re alive and okay because that’s better than thinking you’re dead. I got this idea of asking kids here what they want for Christmas. Just as a kind of goof. For fun or whatever. Some kids answered, but others told me to drop dead because they couldn’t stand to think about it. Most said “food.” Or “to get out of here.” But some had other things to say. I wrote it down word for word so maybe even if you didn’t ever get to read it maybe someone else would…”
Brianna (she calls herself The Breeze.) “What do I want? Shoes, man. I’m going through shoes like crazy. A pair of Nikes — no, like six pairs — would be excellent.”
Charles (everyone calls him Orc.): “My old face. Or maybe a better one. But, like, a regular face.”
Dekka: “Go away, Duck. No, wait a minute. Sorry. What would I want for Christmas? Can it be a who or does it have to be a what? Wait, don’t write that down. I was right the first time: go away.”
Taylor: “To know what people are telling you. There must be some sad, pathetic stuff.”
Astrid: “I assume you want a fairly banal answer, not something abstract? All right, a book. Specifically Lord of the Flies. I keep finding those imbecilic Twilight books and no one in this town has Lord of the Flies? That tells you something about Perdido Beach.”
Albert: “A gallon of de-lousing medicine. You have any idea how desperate kids get when that itching starts? I’d make a fortune.”
Diana: “A dozen pairs of clean, not stiff washed-in-saltwater, panties. Really? You’re blushing because I said ‘panties?’ What are you, eight?”
Jack (they call him Computer Jack): “Comics. What else is there to do? Comics. Like, all the comics in the world.”
Edilio: “I wish I had a picture of my family. That’s what I wish. I feel like every day I have a harder time remembering what they look like. Yeah: a picture, man.”
Howard: “Christmas lights and mistletoe and those plastic reindeer with the lights all over them so I could spread the joy of the season. No, I’m not serious. Grow a brain, Duck. Really, dude, ask Santa to bring you a clue for Christmas.”
Caine: “World peace and love. And for you to never talk to me again. Idiot.”
Mary (everyone calls her Mother Mary because she takes care of the littles.) “Oh, that’s a tough one, Duck. It sounds so boring, but diapers. Like a million disposable diapers. Baby food. Pacifiers. And a full-time grandmother equipped with a rocking chair. (Laughs.) Yeah. Boring.
Sam: “Answers, Duck. That’s what I’d like for Christmas: a great big box of answers. And absolutely none of those answers could be, ‘Sam Temple.’ I have work to do. Later.” |

Hm, nie wiem czy można to tak rozumieć, chociaż... Duck pisze do rodziców, bo smutno mu samemu, a zbliżają się święta. Wcześniej pytał różne dzieciaki, co chciały dostać na święta i postanowił wypisać wymarzone prezenty kilku z nich "a jeśli wy tego nigdy nie przeczytacie, może zrobi to ktoś inny".
